New Arrivals

Healesville Sanctuary is pleased to introduce two new arrivals, Norm and Percy, two male Tasmanian Devils (Sarcophilus harrisii) who were transferred from the Australian Reptile Park in Gosford to be paired with our females for breeding.

Norm and Percy are brothers who were born in the Tasmanian Quarantine Centre. Their parents are two wild-born animals brought in after weaning, specifically for the insurance population. They were born in April 2006 and transferred to the Australian Reptile Park with their mother in December 2006. They came to Healesville Sanctuary on 20 November 2007, and will be on display periodically as they are paired with various females for breeding.

Healesville Sanctuary also recently had four Royal Spoonbills hatch in the Wetlands Aviary. This species is relatively new to Healesville. Two males and four females were obtained from Adelaide Zoo who had collected youngsters under permit, from the Coorong in South Australia. These were hand-raised at Adelaide Zoo and when old enough to be sexed were sent on to Healesville Sanctuary. The adults in the colony were born in December 2004, and our four youngsters were hatched on 26 November 2007. They are currently being raised by the colony.
