The Zoo's ‘Calling on You' campaign is calling for people who received new mobile phones for Christmas to donate their old phones to benefit gorillas and other African wildlife.
This campaign is aimed at minimising the demand for coltan, which is illegally mined in gorilla habitat, leading to drastic drops in the population of these already endangered Great Apes and impacting many other wildlife species.
Every phone donated will benefit gorillas, and it's very easy to help!
To donate an old phone, just drop it off at Melbourne Zoo, or collect a postage-free bag on your next Zoo visit so you can post the phone to the recyclers.
The third option is to print a postage-free mailing label from the Zoos Victoria website, and use it to post your old phone in a recycled envelope you already have at home.

Melbourne Zoo is also hoping that corks popped or pulled during the festive season will be donated to the Friends of the Zoos cork recycling campaign, which raises funds for special Zoo projects.
Both traditional and plastic corks are recycled through this campaign, plus the aluminum caps now found on many wine bottles.
Just drop the corks off at the Zoo or call the Friends of the Zoos to find out more about the project, on 9285 9351.
