The new Mission H2O computer game launched at Melbourne Zoo as part of National Water Week celebrations will make it very enjoyable to find out more about water conservation.
Staff and students at Swinburne University's Faculty of Design developed the innovative online game for the savewater! Alliance.
Even before the launch, Mission H2O had already received the Victorian Premier's Design Award for Multimedia, Swinburne University's Vice Chancellor's Award, and an Honoree Distinction at the 2009 Webby Awards.
The savewater! Alliance CEO Nigel Finney said that the game is' the best we've seen anywhere in the world, and it brings a whole new dimension to conservation learning tools'.
Students from St Mary's Primary School in Williamstown were at the Zoo to join in the launch event and had a chance to try out the new game.
The students were surprised by a visit from two Green Tree Frogs and Keeper Raelene Hobbs, who explained why water conservation is so important for frogs and other wildlife.
2008 is the International Year of the Frog, so zoos worldwide are highlighting concerns about what could potentially be the largest mass extinction since the departure of the dinosaurs.
Mission H2O can be played online at www.missionh2o.com.au, with high scorers going into a prize draw.
