Wise up with "Water Wise" Garden Tours

Werribee Open Range Zoo is preparing to launch its free Water Wise Gardening Tours during the month of May.

Each Sunday in May, horticulturalists will take zoo visitors on a special tour of the Zoo’s innovative Water Smart Garden and explain how to create similar gardens at home.

Curator of Horticulture, Peter Sullivan, said the tours would focus on several of the Zoo’s water wise landscapes including the innovative Water Smart Garden.

“The tours will show people how they can use water saving techniques and still retain their beautiful gardens,” Mr Sullivan said.

“It’s important to realise that water efficiency relates to the types of plants you grow, the soil they grow in, mulches and other gardening practices.

“Our guided tours can help you with practical tips on the many aesthetic and water saving possibilities that are suitable for anyone’s backyard,” he said.

The tours are included in the price of zoo admission and will run from 11am – 12pm on May 4, May 11, May 18 and May 25. Each participant will receive a City West Water conservation show bag.

No bookings are required for gardening tours.
