AMANI AND THEMBI
Young giraffe Amani and Thembi came from Dubbo in May and, after a month of quarantine, they are now making themselves right at home with eland, zebra and resident giraffes, Tony and Kinta, in the Lower Savannah.
The young boys are half brothers and Tony is grandfather to both of them.
They are settling in well in their new environment and are wearing out the older giraffes with all their energy! Keep an eye out for them on the safari bus tour!
Check out the video blogs that follow their activities since they arrived.
HAZEL
The Addax family has grown with the recent arrival of Hazel, born at Werribee Open Range Zoo on the 11th June 2009. She joins boys Baci, born in May, and Raffaello, born in April this year.
The Addax is critically endangered in the wild so the arrival of a female is great news for the breeding program.
As Hazel grows older she will develop the Addax's trademark spiral twisted horns.
TULA, NANKI AND MORILI
Our Serval kittens arrived at Werribee Open Range Zoo in April and have been undergoing a conditioning and familiarisation program with the aim of interacting with Zoo visitors.
The Serval is a shy, lesser-known species of African cat and is the tallest of the small cats, sizing up to about 85cm in length.
Our three long-legged females have characteristics similar to a domestic cat but can leap a whopping 3 metres in the air!
They are being gradually introduced into their new purpose-built enclosure and we hope they will be on public display soon.
Television presenter, Giaan Rooney, and Western Bulldogs captain, Brad Johnson, got a special sneak preview recently.
