Wipe for Wildlife campaign
You can help save local wildlife by switching to wildlife friendly toilet paper
Millions of trees are flushed down Australian toilets each year, so we can wipe our bums and bits. Zoos Victoria's Wipe for Wildlife campaign encourages the community to help save local wildlife by making the switch to recycled toilet paper.
What’s the story?
All forests have ecological value. They provide habitat for wildlife, protect soil from erosion, clean our air and absorb carbon which tackles climate change. Healthy forests help maintain healthy ecosystems which are essential for the survival of our local wildlife.
Campaign objectives
- Raise the profile of selected native species and the power of conservation sensitive consumers
- Encourage the public to switch to wildlife friendly toilet paper
Facilitating conservation action
Zoos Victoria makes helping local wildlife easy by suggesting toilet paper products which not only help protect forests, but give the consumer a guilt-free bum!
Wipe for Wildlife encourages the public to switch to 100% recycled toilet paper, made from post-consumer recycled content. We suggest locally made products that don’t contain harsh chemicals as the best choice for the environment.
Achievements
During the first year of Zoos Victoria’s Wipe for Wildlife campaign:
- More than 91% of surveyed visitors to Healesville Sanctuary recalled the Wipe for Wildlife message
- Zoos Victoria was awarded the 2011 Zoo Aquarium Association’s inaugural Innovation Award for our unconventional approach to mainstreaming conservation.
