More than 20% of Australia’s wildlife is threatened with extinction. Habitat loss, introduced species, disease and the impacts of climate change are increasing pressure on native wildlife. Zoos Victoria cares for more than 350 species of animals and 1500 botanical specimens. Many of these species are listed as endangered, some critically.
Although we receive some funding from the State Government, Zoos Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation and we rely on financial support from the community to provide 70% of the funds required for our vital conservation work. We aim to be the world’s leading zoo-based conservation organisation and the conservation of wildlife and wild places is at the forefront of everything we do. Your donation supports:
our endangered species breeding programs
recovery and release work
community awareness programs
wildlife research, including reproduction and reintroduction
world-class animal care across three zoos: Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo.
