So you want to participate in Work Experience at the zoo?
This is your chance to answer the call of the wild ...

Zoos Victoria, incorporating Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary, is inviting students in Years 10, 11 and 12 to apply to participate in the 2008 Work Experience program.  This invitation goes out to those who have a passion for wildlife and the environment and who would love to experience aspects of life within a zoo/sanctuary setting from animal husbandry or horticulture to works or retail. 

You may assist in providing husbandry (food, water, cleaning, conditioning etc) to the animal collection, beautifying the zoo grounds with the Horticulture team, creating transport boxes with the carpenters or boosting sales within the retail stores just to name a few.  You will work within a team to ensure all aspects of the zoo is maintained and well presented with a focus on health and safety and creating a great experience for our visitors.  

You will need to demonstrate some experience in working within the area you select (such as; working with wildlife, or caring for wildlife or farm animals,) either in paid or unpaid work. You enjoy working in a team and are a talented communicator. You are hardworking, have a positive attitude and motivated to achieving your goals and those of your team. Initiative and independence come easily for you, yet you are able to work to a routine within a dynamic environment.

Work Experience is organised across a 1-week placement, not including weekends and public holidays. You will need a high level of physical fitness and confidence in order to undertake the necessary workload.

The Zoos Victoria Work Experience program does not operate during public holidays, weekends and school holidays.
