Did you know Australia has one of the worst extinction rates in the world? Zoos Victoria is working to ensure that no Victorian terrestrial species goes extinct on our watch! We thought it was time to look into our own backyards and fight the extinction of 20 native species who without our help, may disappear in the wild within 10 years.
The Love Your Locals campaign aims to raise the profile of these 20 species – many of which are unknown. We’ll be working hard to tell their stories and declare our love. We have already made a start – through street art, love letters in the newspaper and through the introduction of Zooperman and the Extinction Fighters. Find out more about these brave zooperheroes.
It isn’t hard to fight extinction and save wildlife. You can declare your love for local animals and become an extinction fighter too!
- Eight of our amazing local species are featured on Act Wild – you can find out how your everyday actions can help save local wildlife.
- We declared our love for local species through street art in Melbourne’s city – in ACDC Lane.
- You can meet Lunar Leadbeater at Healesville Sanctuary – check out Lunar’s Secret Forest.
- You can get to know your locals – one of the best ways to help us fight extinction is to join the Zoos Victoria family.
