We’ve had another massive year fighting wildlife extinction.

In particular our Threatened Species team at Healesville Sanctuary have been taking great care of this little guy, the Orange-bellied Parrot. With the help of our Tasmanian partners (DPIPWE), numerous volunteers, and the OBP Recovery Team, we’ve seen the first release of this bird to the wild since 2009.

Three things you should know about this brave little parrot:

1)      He is one of only two migrating parrots in the world
2)      There are less of them in the wild than there are giant pandas
3)      24 of his kind were released back in to the wild this year

Oh and..he’s a very festive little fellow with an important story to share. And what better way to tell this story than with a Christmas song?

Merry Christmas from the Orange-bellied Parrot and all the team at Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo!
