Sustainability

Zoos Victoria uses the term sustainability in reference to prolonging the availability of resources  based on a theory that if it recycles more, uses things less or uses things in a more thoughtful way, it can reduce detrimental impacts on the environment.

Zoos Victoria has strategies and plans in place for sustainable practices at Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary. Each property has an environmental sustainability group that helps staff members to examine their own practices and advises Zoos Victoria on ways to improve its resource use. Where it can, Zoos Victoria encourages its visitors and partners to do the same.
