Werribee Open Range Zoo is located 35 kilometres west of Melbourne’s city centre, on the Princes Freeway. It is a short 30-minute drive from the city over the Westgate Bridge or via the Geelong Road. (Take the Werribee South exit to K Road.)
The Zoo is also en route to the Great Ocean Road and is a major attraction on the Great Southern Touring Route and the Bay Tour.
Getting to Werribee Open Range Zoo by public transport is easy.
Step 1
From Melbourne:
Catch a train from the Melbourne CBD to Werribee station (travelling on the Werribee Line).
From Geelong:
Catch a train from Geelong to Werribee station (travelling on the Melbourne train).
Step 2
From Werribee station:
Catch bus 439 (Werribee South) from Werribee station to the Zoo.
Please note: The last Safari Bus Tour of the day leaves at 3:30pm. This means that visitors who catch the 3:35pm bus service will arrive too late to participate. We recommend visitors arrive earlier in the day, in order to avoid disappointment.

(Tip – use their Journey Planner for public transport directions from anywhere in Victoria. Simply enter your starting address in the ‘From’ box and enter ‘Werribee Zoo’ as a landmark in the ‘To’ box.)
A Squires Coach shuttle departs the National Gallery of Victoria (180 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne) for Werribee Open Range Zoo at 9.30am.
Please be at the pick-up point by 9:20am for a 9:30am departure.
There is an alternative pick-up point along the route, at 28 South Gate Ave, Southbank.
The shuttle cost is $25 per person, return transport only. Bookings are essential.
A private shuttle is also available with price on application. You can choose your own pick-up point and times.
